Normally, the festival is a one-day, in-person event celebrating Japanese culture in the Midwestern US and the longstanding relationship between Independence, Missouri and our sister city of Higashimurayama, Japan. Obviously, a large group gathering or celebration will not be possible this spring in Independence, so we have moved as much of the festival online as possible and expanded the duration of the event to two full weeks

While a website is no substitute for the physical experience of attending a spring festival, we hope that you will join us for daily challenges, daily learning, activities to try at home, and opportunities to connect with local friends and support local businesses. The committee looks forward to sharing the next two weeks with our extended family of festival participants and attendees. Please join us in celebrating spring, Japanese culture, international friendship, and the unique, enduring and adaptable relationship between Independence, Missouri and Higashimurayama, Japan.
